OUR STORY
Anchor House Inc. officially started in 1993, but to understand the heart and story of the ministry, you have to go back to the 1980s. It all started when Captain E. Jim George, a retired sea captain of decades, started ministering to seafarers out of his car. He would walk the docks with a Bible in his hand and a flame on his heart. George routinely opened his home to international seafarers and would take them back to his house so they could make international calls to their families back home.

Then, in 1990, the Lord did great work in the history of Anchor House and blessed the ministry with facilities in the heart of the SeaPort. Anchor House Mission inc. has faithfully served the SeaPort Community since 1993, and it has been a fixture of the SeaPort ever since. The port looked different back then – there were half as many docking locations for ships to unload, and the vessel brought half as many workers to the port.
Though George passed away in 2003 at age 85, Anchor House burns on with the same heart that Captain George started it with decades ago: to be the love of Christ to the SeaPort community. As the SeaPort has grown, our heart for the workers has grown with it; and as the SeaPort has evolved into one of the most significant economic engines of the bay area, we at the Anchor House have no plans of slowing down. On the contrary, after over 30 years of following the Great Commission, we have never been so excited to continue to dive further and further in pursuit of the Lord’s call found in Matthew 28.
